I am confused with B of A. I went to our local branch (not in California) and was told that I have to open a parent account to get a free student account for our son. However, the catch is, I have to meet one of their requirements to get free check writing. I came back, gave a check for a CD with the 4% promotion special, and the second clerk (not the same guy as the first time I came in) said I did not have to open an account for my son to get a free student account. Are B of A services free for USC students without a parent account?

I opened up a CampusEdge checking account for free. The only catch that I've seen so far is that you had to open a savings account (so you can sign up for Keep the Change) and after either 3 or 6 months, that savings account has to have a balance of $300 or more or else they start charging the savings account.

May I ask if this happened at the B of A branch near USC or out of state? The two different reps of B of A near us (east coast) did not say anything about the $300. balance savings account deal. Thank you for your input.

Well like I said, I did it all online, but I live in Chicago. I've done banking at the branch here and had absolutely no problem. But no one exactly told me about the $300 thing, I read it in the fine print.

I wonder if I keep the parent account if my son still has to do the savings account.

I have a campusedge account for free too but I have no savings account and they didn't ask me for one.. o.O

Do your parents have an account that is giving you the campusedge account for free? Did you open this account at USC?

I also have a CampusEdge account that I opened in california (not near USC). Its totally free and I wasn't required to open any other accounts or things like that, and my parents didn't have any accounts with B of A.

Yeah, my parents don't bank with Bank of America at all. I think the only reason why I had to open a savings was because I signed up for Keep the Change.
