I need to find a bank at Berkeley that has free checking, and over-draft protection. Prefer one with offices nation-wide. Anyone has experience with this?

I think all of them offer students free checking. The big three in the are Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Washington Mutual in that order. Followed by CitiBank.

If you don't need a brick-and-mortar experience, I use Schwab for my banking these days. It has everything you want, and the added bonus of free ATM use nationwide. This means that no matter whose ATM you use, it's free. No more searching for an ATM so you won't get charged. Just a suggestion.

theres a bank of america on telegraph and its really handy, i have BOA so when i move up there im sticking to it.... their student checking is aweome.. check it out...
Bank of America | Please Select Your State

missnancy: do you also have the student credit card? I have the student checking/savings and am thinking about getting the credit card. Do you know if they have any hidden fees or anything evil like that?

yeah, im getting the university of california student credit card... its great cuz it has cal on it and they donate to the UC when u use it..

California Alumni Association Platinum Plus MasterCard Credit Card from Bank of America

bank of americas check cards also have ur picture on it.... so its also an ID at the same time and its hard for ppl to use it if u lose it (gosh i sound like a BOA spokesperson but i swear im not )

There is a credit union on campus that you can check out. Credit unions usually have wide access to various ATM's nationally.
