Hi guys,
So all of my scores, gpa, ECs ect. seem like a good match for BC and the location is pretty much exactly what I’m looking for, but I’m worried that it’s too conservative for me. I live in a very liberal area and hold liberal views myself. I know that BC has a reputation for being conservative, I’m just wondering to what extent this is true.

We can’t really help you with judging the “feel” of the school. It all depends on the people you hangout with and your preferences. Visit if you get a chance. The reason I didn’t like BC was b/c it felt too preppy.

This has been commented on quite a bit, but I’ll quickly comment again. I don’t really think BC has a reputation for being conservative. Is BC more conservative than a school like Brown? Yes. But I still would say BC tends to be liberal. “Liberal” and “conservative” are very relative terms. For example, some Catholics think BC is too liberal (in a negative way) and not Catholic enough. For some it might be too conservative (mainly for those who are as far left as possible). I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, though. BC has a very good balance of “liberals” and “conservatives”. You’ll find all types of students there, all over the spectrum. I don’t see why anyone who is “liberal” or “conservative” would feel out of place attending BC, at all. They have the College Democats and the College Republicans, and both are active orgranizations on campus. There are very liberal students, very conservative students, and very moderate students. BC as a whole tends to lean left from a reasonable viewpoint but again, different people will say different things. I don’t think BC is “conservative” though if you’re looking at the big picture (professors, students, administration, etc.). Btw, I know many “very liberal” people from “very liberal” areas and they don’t have a problem with BC.

A lot of the reason that its seen as conservative is because its in the most liberal state in the country. My orientation leader said that the students are very liberal for the most part, but the administration is conservative.

There are honestly so many more important things than political leanings when looking for a right fit. Read up on CollegeP Rowler and Student Reviews(with a grain of salt on this one), for a general feel of what the student body is like. The last thing you want is to show up with all black clothing when everyone else is wearing pastel colored Polos or realize that you don’t like watching sports when everyone is at the football game.
