Is Berkeley a good school for the social sciences and humanities?

Most of what I hear about it is its Science and Mathematics departments. Is it as strong in the social sciences? Will UCLA be better for the humanities/social sciences?

Nope. For the humanities and social sciences, Cal is absolutely bad ass.

Well, our English departments is quite good. From what I know, so is the political science department.

Both UCLA and CAL have exquisite humanities and social sciences programs.

^ not true. For example, we have the #2 Classics department in the country.

UCLA is a great college, but it is lower than Berkeley in most fields. There are certain fields where UCLA might outrank Berkeley, but across the Humanities and Social Sciences, Cal wins.

Look at the USNWR graduate school rankings

Yea, in terms of rankings - Berkeley wins (for now - we’ll never know what’s going to happen in the future).

Yeah, Berkeley definitely has the edge. All I meant was that UCLA also has very fine programs for humanities/social sciences. You can’t lose either route you take.
