Our tour guide at Bryn Mawr had a purple streak in her hair. She was very theater-y and it worked for her.
Pizza, the swastika doesn’t connote “white trash”. It is a very specific symbol used by a wide range of white supremacist groups (both in the US and Europe). Violent extremist groups have adopted it- and the Nazi salute- with no regard for its cultural connotations, or socioeconomic implications- they have adopted it because of its specific use during WW 2 to herd millions of Jews, Romani, and Gays into the gas chambers.
Don’t recoil when you see one, assuming that the person who is displaying it is uncouth or eats with their mouth open (or whatever “white trash” means- I have no idea). If it is being used in an intimidating way, call law enforcement- they track extremist groups and are very sensitive to “lone wolfs” who may be violent.
Two weeks ago a neo-Nazi was arrested in CT for threatening to shoot members of a near- by synagogue as they walked in and out of the building. His neighbors apparently ignored the swastikas, growing cache of weapons, etc.
If you see something say something.
Personally, I don’t care what color someone’s hair might be. I am so gray at this point- who am I to judge?
thank you Pizzagirl for repeating(your post 44) the idea I presented in my posts 20 and 25. Blue hair is nothing new, particularly for those of us in our mid-forties or older. I didn’t think anyone here really noticed my post, but I see you did. Thank you!
I know a chair of a regulatory agency who regularly streaks her hair with different colors not found in nature. I’m not sure how old she is, maybe 60? It hasn’t hurt her career.
MODERATOR’S NOTE: Wow, this thread went way off topic. I deleted a couple of posts.
This is anecdotal but when I was in Seattle last year I noticed lots of blue hair on all sorts of women. No other unnatural colors only shades of blue. Thought it must be a regional trend (see lots of different hair colors here in the Northeast but more of a variety of colors not just lots of blue!)
Oh, there are PLENTY of other hair colors in Seattle! I see them on girls and women of all ages, teen boys and men too. I have seen unusual hair colors on medical professionals, in stores, on public transportation, schools, everywhere I tend to go. At D’s HS alone, there were kids last year with rainbow hair, grey hair with a purple tint, blue, and candy red. And there are many unusual haircuts on young people too.
Fwiw, we have spent the last week in Nashville and I saw all of the above here too. The pharmacist in one store had the sides of his head shaved and a big pompadour.
A Pompadour!
I have a young niece who is an ultra free spirit bohemian type (Trying too hard in my opinion). She just recently went Vegan and now judges anyone who would consider meat or animal by products. She pushes that everyone should be in love with their NATURAL beauty. She refuses to shave her legs or her underarms because body hair is natural and in her opinion (yuck) beautiful. All of this pushing and judging while sporting he very UNNATURAL hair color and her sleeve of tattoos.
Body hair is natural…it grows from the body, causes no harm and every healthy body produces it. Just ask men how gross body hair is… the answer will not be theirs.
Your wider point is taken, @bhs1978, but I disagree with your approach.
