I know this is an odd question, but I wanted to know how this would be received in college. I’ve wanted to dye my hair purple and blue and other “wild” colors since I was in middle school. Unfortunately, due to a lack of money for a professional, the farthest I ever got was a couple of red streaks framing my face. In high school I was never really judged for it; if anything, people really liked my hair. My school wasn’t very conservative and, compared to most schools in the south, it had a REALLY big Asian population. I’m Asian myself and also a good student, which is why I was never really judged negatively for it.
If I went a step further and did purple and blue in college, would it still be okay? I mean, if people can get wasted and party (which I don’t plan on doing), then surely dying my hair would be harmless. The college I’m going to also has a pretty decent Asian demographic and, like I said, I’m a good student.
I don’t think it would be a problem at all! College is a time you get to reinvent yourself. It may help because people will remember you as blue hair girl…you will stand out which is good when making friends freshman year.
No one will care. And anyone who does isn’t worth your time.
Not dyeing my hair sooner is one of my few regrets in life. I’m a PhD student now with bright red/purple hair but I didn’t start dyeing until I was in a PhD program lol.
Unless you are going to a uni like Liberty (specific restrictions on things like hair color) no one will care. It’s very unlikely that you will be have the most outlandish hair, no matter what you do.
Do it. When you’re starting to consider internships and summer jobs in any field that might not take to it, then you can go back to natural or normal. Unlike a neck tattoo.
My great big (the big of my big) changed her hair color like every 2 months back when she was the Officer for Vietnamese Student Association. Visually it feels like 30-40% of the Asian population at my college dyed their hair.
The nice thing about hair color is that it’s much less permanent than something like a tattoo - if it ever becomes an issue, you can always go back to a tamer color. I say go for it - blue hair is gorgeous! Fun hair can require a lot of maintenance, though, and it can get pretty expensive if you’re not doing it yourself, so be aware of that.
My brother bleached his brown hair in college for fun and no one cared. I think people thought it was funny. No one will care especially if you’re going to a liberal school.
nobody will care fact, do whatever you want to do, its college things are different, people know better in the sense that if its none of their business they wont care, and guarantee you wont be the only one.
I do caution you to figure out what you will do to keep up with the dying (if you want to)…I told my daughter she can dye her hair but I am not paying for it…fortuneately she has a friend who helps her for cheap.
I saw the most beautiful neon blue hair today. The woman wasn’t even a kid.
You can also get big chunks of extensions in colors, pin them in, take them out, re-use them, etc. Don’t forget your hair continues to grow and it’s a mess when roots show. Dying your hair can be a commitment.
You can start with cellophane if you’re worried about caring for an actual dye. It only lasts like 4 months/washes off slowly with time, so it’ll always be “even.” Then you can re-do it.
