Is Bowdoin Worth My Time and Money

So, I’m not sure if its worth it for me to apply to Bowdoin. I like the school, but I’m also applying to Bates, where I think I might have a slightly better shot.

Is it worth the $60 for me?

Yes. Kids can be accepted unpredictably.

You look like a pretty impressive applicant...GPA looks a little low at first look, but if you've been taking APs your entire high school career, I'd say not worry quite as much. Go for it! Haven't got anything to lose, except the $60. Good luck :)

it's worth your time and money, definitely.

if you dont want to go to Bowdoin it isn't worth it. If you do want to go it would be.
On the plus side of you not applying(for me)....it would be one less person i would have to compete with for the spot. haha

but no seriously....if you would seriously go it would be worth applying.

Thanks everybody. I would gladly go to Bowdoin, I'd love it in fact, but I'm in the good situation of having a college list where I truly can find something great about every college, and would like all of them. It's a little hefty now (111 schools), so I'm toying with the idea of maybe cutting out one of my reaches, and Bowdoin is more of a reach than some others.

111 or 11?

Our experience indicates that it's more sensible to cut a safety than a reach. Both kids had better luck at matches/reaches than at safeties. Go figure. You only need one safety.

If you don't love Bowdoin, by all means, cut it out. But if you love it, you should risk it. Really.

Oh wow. Only 11.

Haha, right now I have one safety (Transylvania), and I like it way more than my match (Centre). The rest on my list are either admissions or financial "reaches" (though I fully expect to be surprised with finaid once that comes in, it seems that can be even more eccentric than admissions).

So ultimately, I do love Bowdoin enough to spend $60, and it seems like maybe it will be worth it. I'm terribly insecure about my GPA though, but I'll get over it.

Ah, so you get rejected. It's worth trying for something you love.

BTW: A good friend of mine teaches at Transylvania.

Really? I had a professor for a summer program from Transy. I very much enjoyed him. He was teaching a Politics class, but he's actually a classics professor, so instead of talking about current politics over the summer, we instead spend a lot of time delving into Greek political theory. It was just purely fascinating, and everyone in the class loved him.

That's great. My friend teaches English Lit. -- romantics, I think.
