Is BU underrated?

You are the first person that I have heard say that. To most it feels like a resort with palm trees, lakes and waterfalls.

Not really. Not to mention the mold and other crap all over the old buildings, and the ****ty concrete buildings outside of Coral Gables.

Oh, and Colu, why the hell was your dad carrying a gun?

According to the BU Security website, here are the following recommendations for parents' weapons during campus tours:

Whites: .45 caliber pistol
URMs: .38 caliber revolver
Asians: Bazooka

Seems like I need to drive a tank to tour the campus, and still need to be aware of the mines.

I have heard nothing but good things about Miami’s campus, however that is from people going to Miami so... Otherwise, I heard that BU should stand for Butt Ugly.

BU is a good school especially in journalism and business but I think its ranking at 60 is just about what it is. It doesn't go much higher or lower than that so I don't think it is overrated nor underrated. Both Miami and BU are private schools and they get a boost in the rankings. Miami has a 3.2 overall peer assessment ranking and BU has a 3.3. Compare that to publics in the same general area, UT-Austin 4.0, UMCP-3.7, Georgia 3.4, Pitt 3.4, OSU 3.6, Purdue 3.8, Iowa 3.6, among others and you can see that they both are ranked higher than their national prestige.

IMO, BU's surrounding general area and 'campus' is MUCH nicer than Miami's. There is nothing ugly about BU except for its 'lack' of a central campus.

I think Miami's campus is rather nice though. I don't have to worry about a 4 lane highway or the T going through the campus.

Miami is more of a college "campus" with a defined area and buildings whereas BU is more spread out through the actual city of Boston.

To each his own form of beauty.

honestly ..i visited BU's campus...inside the buildings, the facilites are probably the best i've ever seen...but..ppl have to realizethat BU's lack of a campus would tick off a majority of the applicant pool to colleges each year...leading to fewer exceptionally smart/talented admits...therefore justifying its rank of 60.

p.s. the only reason i would go to BU is that BIG PAPI plays just 5 minutes away!!! (big papi=david ortiz=red sox)

From what I have seen it is very difficult to get A's in BU classes (at least in the College of General Studies especially and the School of Hospitality Administration), and by difficult, I mean they don't give out many A's. In fact, I find their grading procedures so appalling I would not recoomend going there. I haven't seen the grade distributions in the other schools besides those two.

What I find rather hilarious is that BU did a random survey of 100 students across a variety of schools/majors. LOut of the 100 students not one had a cumulative 4.0 gpa and only something like 25% could even report earning a single A, 4.0 in even one of their classes.

BU's grade deflation is part of the reason for the ranking of 60th by U.S. News and can also be attributed to very poor alumni giving rate. BU is a good school that is supposed to educated people in the attempt to further their life by giving them a better job, social tandings, contacts, skills to succeedd.

Although with grade deflation, it is still possible to accomplish these things. To the individual (meaning in this case the BU student) they don't see the benefits of grade deflation and quite frankly neither do I .

For business what would the basic differences be between Miami, GWU and BU?

"Which, I should add, was, in rhetrospect, a direct violation of fundamental constitutional rights.....are students subjected to such harassment? First, my father has a 4th amendment right to carry a firearm. Second, I am protected against unwarrented searches and seizures. But we were with a tour group, and we were embarrassed, so we complied..."

This quote just amazes me. First, you do not have the right to carry a firearm on someone's private property. Two, how can BU violate your rights? Last I checked, BU was not a branch of the federal government. Third, if you and your father think it's a good idea to carry a weapon while walking around Boston, then you should be embarassed enough to leave.

And no, students are not subject to any kind of harassment from the security guards at the dorms--as long as you swipe your card, I have never seen them say a word to anyone.

Please try that on an airport..

Bus pretty bad... Harvard and MIT from accross the river are much better than BU...
