ARE NYU/ BU prestigious?

ARE NYU/ BU prestigious?

bu=not really
nyu=depends on what you do there, but for the most part i think it is

Yes. I don't know much about BU, but NYU is extremely prestigious.

Both get a definate "meh"

hunter#9..u're very funny.

I think both are prestigious, but both are also overrated.

Both are decent schools. Not excellent, not terrible.

Coming from a MA native, BU isn't prestigious. It's overrated. A lot of people can recieve a good to great education from there. It has a number of alluring qualities, and that it's in the smack dab of a vibrant college town sure helps. But, it's still in the lower echelon of colleges. Don't confuse BU with Tufts or MIT or someplace because it's just not at the same level of those colleges.

Stern at NYU is, otherwise no for both.

I agree with somewhat with suze, NYU moreso than BU because of its business school. Rankings aren't the best thing but NYU is 37T and BU is 60.

yes they are, it's just that you're asking the wrong people. people here consider ivies and top 5 lacs as prestigious. the rest of the schools to most here are either ok/good or well known.

Anyone who doesn't think BU is prestigious is an idiot, sorry. Granted everyone here is the second coming of Einstein, and I want to go to BU. You all really just have a problem with any school that isnt a top school. Let me guess...you think $50K is a lot for a year of tuition?

Alkaboy: You're a sophomore. I wouldn't really expect much out of you. Lemme guess, mommy and daddy are plugging how good Harvard is right?

nah, they don't like harvard other than the grade inflation xD and $50k isn't really that much. my parents have to spend that on my sister at usc each year, lol, and then she went to private school all her life (25k a year), so um yeah, tuition isn't why. i've just heard that like compared to the rest of the colleges in boston it's not as good (ie harvard, mit, bc, tufts)

I have nothing against BU or NYU. I'm not a prestige-whore. I think NYU and BU are good schools. But, regardless of rankings, I'm not giving praise where praise isn't due.

I'm not familiar with NYU. I do think it is more renowned than BU, becaus of certain schools and departments, but that's how far I'll comment.

Now, BU, I am familiar. Every year, a lot of students at my school are accepted to BU. Most are not stellar students. They're right at average to slightly above average, and that's how I picture BU. The quality of its reputation, student body, and departments are slightly above average, but not to mistaken with quality of other higher-esteemed MA schools. BU isn't Harvard. That doesn't make it a bad school, and, as I've said, students can recieve a great education there, comparable to what you'd recieve at higher-ranked schools. It's a solid school. But, it's not at the top of the holy grail of college admissions by any means.

NYU and BU get the number of applications they do because of popular locations. Go to Bowdoin or Grinnell instead for a much better education.

I cant say I dont agree, but that doesnt mean it isnt prestigious ;)

Ever think that some people dont have the stats to get into schools such as Bowdoin or Grinnell???

Gee, JPod, ever think that that just might be one of the reasons why certain schools are referred to as prestigious? Twit. And yes, I'm being sarcastic. BU is not even remotely considered prestigious. One of its major, major flaws is its CGS program which accepts students that BU claims to possess "academic promise or potential" but what BU really means is "if you can pay full tuition, you're accepted dude!!". CGS is the second largest school at BU now!! NYU not so blatanly does the same thing.

So because one school is better than another it makes that school prestigious and the other school isnt? Thats pretty rediculous. As for your insult of CGS, which is where I will hopefully attend, your comments are completely fallacious. CGS kids still need to achieve certain criteria, albeit not as much as the main school, but entry into CGS is hardly the cake-walk you perceive it as. Entry is hardly for anyone who can just 'pay their way in'. I know that for a fact. It's obvious you have some sort of vendetta against the school. Where do you attend again?

As others have said, BU and NYU have gotten more competitive - and thus more "prestigious," depending on your definition, due to a student body with stronger statistics - in recent years due to their excellent locations.

At NYU, Tisch and Stern are both excellent in their respective domains. However, the general colleges at both BU and NYU are not particularly fantastic compared to other schools. I've heard bad things about the academics and the administration at both schools, but... They've both got the great location thing going for them... and for that reason they'll probably only become more popular and competitive in future years, as they're "on the rise." Does this make them prestigious, academically and to prospective employers? My opinion is no, but I can see how others might disagree.
