Is BU worth the money?

Is Boston University worth the money? I got accepted into the Questrom School of Business and I’ll have to pay over $60k each year for the next 4 years. However, my parents are paying out of their pocket for it. I’m not sure if I should just go to SMG at Binghamton and pay less than $30k a year or go to BU. I really like BU and I feel like I’ll have more opportunities there but I’m not sure if it’s worth the money. Also, is it possible to get scholarships as a college student? I am thinking about attending BU and doing really well in order to get scholarships but I’m not sure how much money would I get from them. Any advice would be very much appreciated, thank you.

Unless money is totally a non-factor, I’d go to SUNY Binghamton. I don’t think BU is worth $120,000 more. And generally people don’t get additional scholarships once they start college.

Just applied to BU… I know I can still apply to Binghamton and just cancel my enrollment to BU since the deadline is May 1st but I’m so stressed about this. It is driving me insane haha. It’s true that money is not really a factor. I just hope that I made the right decision.

@fernweh getting scholarships while in college is actually a possibility. A lot of people don’t consider it to be, but I’ve known people who got more money in their college years through scholarships than they did during their senior year. You just have to know where to look.

agreed. my daughter was in the exact same position 2 years ago and decided to go to Bing and is SO glad she did. Graduating with a lot of debt compromises the freedom you have after college. IF you continue school you weill no doubt incur more debt. what if you want to travel for the summer but it’s time to start paying your debt. Also, Boston University may be more well known but it is certainly not a better school than Binghamton. My daughter knows many people there who got into Cornell but couldn’t afford it so went to Binghamton, the “public Ivy”.

I’m still not sure right now. The thing is that money isn’t a really big problem… but I don’t want all that money to go to waste. I’m thinking about transferring to Cornell or another school if BU really isn’t the right fit. Thank you for your answer!

Ah I see, thank you for your answer! I feel a lot more reassured and will definitely try to look into more scholarships while attending college.

dpr3256, I’m surprised that you know so many students who got into Cornell and Binghamton but couldn’t afford Cornell. Cornell gives good need based aid. Being accessible is part of their mission. Their aid takes all kinds of factors into account including other kids in college at the same time or soon, age of parents and a whole lot else. If your income is 120 K or less I think that the requirements to take loans is capped. State assisted colleges in Cornell are cheaper for NY residents. There are certainly many Binghamton to Cornell transfers so that is certainly very doable.

I’d go with Binghamton. BU isn’t that much better.

BU-great global rep. I know it’s expensive. See what you can muster for aid. They have been clipping their packages last couple years.

No, I don’t think its business program is well known.

I would go to Binghamton because BU is not worth that huge difference in price
