Well. Personally, I don’t think it is suitable for an student to choose BA as a major if he doesn’t have any work experience in related field.

I don’t think there are “bad” majors. There are some excellent majors for job prospects and good salaries, but once you are not on that page, it doesn’t matter much IMO. There are some majors that are very common and BA is one of them, so it does not confer anything special. But then neither do most other general majors. Now an accounting major, which is a sub section of BA, that is a whole other story.

It depends what you want to do and where you go to school. The reason it has somewhat of a bad rep is because it is saturated at lower ranked state colleges/universities and students often forget the importance of networking and experience. The degree only gets you so far.

Hotel and restaurant management is relatively low paid. If you are top performer working for a large company it is possible to eventually move up to better paid positions.

Whether the degree is entirely useless is impossible to, definitively, argue one way or the other. What is true is that the ability to think critically is paramount in the business world. To what degree critical thinking can be taught will be limited by the students’ ability to absorb the material. You want to be at a school with the smartest possible student community. For hotel and hospitality management Cornel is considered the best choice.
