Is CAL DAY really worth going to? (i already took a campus tour recently)

i am admitted to pre-business

Is CAL DAY really worth going to?

i took a campus tour last week, visited the city of berkeley, and talked to a couple undergrads about their experiences thus far about berkeley.

my family is thinking of driving up to berkeley for CAL Day (6 hr drive) but we are not sure whether it is really worth it.

will i be missing out on alot if i dont attend CAL day?

(i went to the Davis student admit day and i really didn't think it was worth it, most of the information was general although it was nice to get a glimpse of the "college town" environment)

It's up to you. There are quite a few places that are open to the public that day that are usually restricted (Museum of Vertebrae Zoology). Lots of people giving lectures, useful information, a chance to speak with current students, free goodies.

It was definitely worth my time since I live 1.5hrs away.

meh. 6 hour drive...? It probably isn't worth it. You're not missing out on anything crucial, but it is a pretty fun day.

1hr drive for me! oo last year didnt they give out t shirts? all the srs at my school that went last year all came back with some cal shirt haha

they did.. but the t-shirt I wasn't that nice looking...

oo the t shirt i saw was the blue w/ gold colored Cal.

(on a similar note: cal shirts)

i saw this one shirt on telegraph...it was pretty funny. the back was just a description of CAL's history in academic english and towards the end of the paragraph, it totally bashes UCLA and the other UCs..calling them puny/weak/less intense..etc....

gotta be pretty arrogant to wear that shirt and take it seriously, although if i went to cal, i might wear it as a joke

You can take a look at the schedule online and see if you think it's worth it. 6 hours is a long drive, really. You will have access to many things right in front of you, and many of the things (such as the musuems) you can use as a student. it'll be crowded, but fun, and you might learn a lot, depending on who you talk to (profs or staff and definitely students in many majors, clubs, jobs, ect). It's up to you.

i want a shirt!

too bad i'm not goin to cal day.

It's fun, but probably not worth a 6 hour drive, unless you also plan on also going to San Francisco for dinner or something...and then you'd have to stay in a hotel, make a trip of it. The only really memorable thing about Cal Day for me was visiting a Biology lab and holding up a big snake and seeing some other creatures.

it's not worth it

Cal Day is just a massive PR campaign stunt. If you are unsure about Berkeley, I'd recommend going on another day as well and just chat with students as Cal Day is really just a glossed over, niced-up version of any other day at Cal. However, it is a lot of fun, so it's really up to you to decide whether you wanna go to CalDay or just pick a random day of the week and go.

It is a 10 minute bus ride away for me, lol.

If you are going, take off Friday too and go visit SF, go to Peir 39, et al and really enjoy yourself.

I did this when I went to UCLA, visiting Disney Land, etc.

I'm about 2 hours (w/o traffic) away from Berkeley, so I'm definatly heading up there.

Also does anyone notice how we CA residents travel by minutes and not by miles. I was talking to someone from the east coast and they noticed this.

Yeah, it makes sense (particularly for souther california streets and freeways. Mmm. Traffic. :)
