Is CalSO absolutely necessary?

I mean from the agenda it seems that it's not that informational besides the class advising.
I took like two tours of the campus so I'm not really into that. I also did the overnight stay program so I know what the dorms are like. As far as classes go I only have like 2 or 3 questions which seem quite manageable over email.
What exactly is so important about going to CalSO?

The important thing about CalSO is that you get first pick of classes (up to 10.5 units) depending on which date you attend (sooner the better).
If you don’t attend a CalSO date, they’ll just give you your Adviser Code on 13 July to register for classes online, but at the expense of having last pick, so you might not get the classes you want.

The only thing I got out of it was the class sign-up appointment, but that was totally worth it.

You also get your Cal1 Card (student ID), meet with your counselor, and learn some of the campus traditions (at least that’s what it says on the tentative itinerary).

Picking your classes is probably the biggest reason you should go.

If I qualify for CalSO in SoCal, should I still go to Cal for the orientation, or should I just stay in SoCal?

How do you qualify for CalSo in SoCal. Where and when would I find that out?

^ If you qualify for the Pell Grant, they give you the SoCal option though I’m assuming you have to live in SoCal as well… But uhhh, it shows up when you go to sign up for a CalSO date after logging in.

EDIT:

Thanks! I read that on the other topic right after I posted, haha.
