I'm a freshman that needs to take chem 107 or chem 111 because I want to be an Environmental Science/ Biology major .Unfortunately, i'm not amazing at math ( I never took Calculus in High School, but i'm taking calc now at my local community college so i know something about it ). I really want to take chemistry, but i'm scared of the math in it. I already have two core courses for my major since I got a 4 on my AP Micro exam and 4 on AP Environmental exam. I really want to take chemistry, but i'm scared of the math in it. Also, I have my social science requirement filled by AP US and AP Euro. I think i'm just taking THEA 101, BIO 117, PSYCH 101, and CHEM 107. Do you think that's too rigorous for a freshman?

Hi! First of all, most freshman DO take Bio 117 & Chem 108 together. I guess what you need to decide is whether or not you’re going to do the pre-med track OR just major in Biology. I’m a Bio major on the pre-med track. Most students are advised to take Chem 107/108 if they’re on the pre med track. Chem 111 is super rigorous and is mostly taken by engineers or students NOT on the pre-med track. Although taking Bio & Chem together is tough, like I said before, most freshman do it. Also, the math isn’t calculus, more so just the basics. As long as you took Chem in high school, you should be okay. There’s also tutoring and a help room for chem, so you won’t be completely lost. Finally, most Bio majors have the option to take Calc because it counts as credit towards your major.

oh, and Regarding Theater 101 and Psych 101:
Theater is pretty easy, you’ll have no problems; it’s a GPA booster, from what I hear.
The professor for Psych 101 is a little boring, and it’s one of those classes where you don’t have to go to lecture…just live and breath your textbook.

The math required in Chem107 doesn’t require anything above 8thgrade math. (addition, subtractions, conversions, multiplication, division) You just have to know when to utilize them. A lot of prehealth/science majors college freshman do take bio117/118 and Chem107 together.
Don’t bother with Psych101. Take Psych111 instead. It’s straight memorization. Interesting stuff too. It doesn’t take a lot to get an A.
