That a lot people changed their mind and did not apply at all.

This has historically been the case. At least half a dozen friends of my S did not apply because they felt Chicago was simply too demanding. They instead applied to Ivies, Stanford, Duke etc. Be clear, I'm not asserting that these schools are any less demanding, only that the students thought they were. This year a good friend's kid also did not apply for that reason.

The application's essays are very different from other applications' essays, so people usually don't just apply to U of C on a whim

This was my easiest application, because I enjoyed writing it. That's really the key.

I didn't think that the application was really that hard. Yeah, it was a little longer than most other applications, but not harder.

Then again, I love writing and unique essays prompts, so I guess that I may have fooled myself in a sense.

My UChicago application was by far the most fun.
Unfortunately, UChicago didn't want me.

I had a great time having fun with the essay options - though in the end I opted to do a spin-off on the mustard jar question. My essays for UChicago made my brain explore different writing styles and take chances, and those essays ended up being a heck of a lot better than my common app ones.

Not really that hard. Just have fun with it. I did, and I got in.

im sorry bill-h-pike.. i'm sure u are very bright!

the application wasn't really that bad. i personally didn't like the essay prompts, but i wrote a short (note: very) 286 word essay. got an email for the nod on sunday, so i guess quality > quantity. both is better obviously though

congrats frosty27
