Would a crunchy and very dedicated theater kid who loves organic farming and hiking find like-minded kids at Colby? She loves Maine but has heard that Colby is very preppy. Thoughts?

She would find many, many like-minded kids indeed. Colby isn't any preppier than the other small New England LACs. Remember that there are no fraternities/sororities. The vibe is pretty casual, and there is organic farming done by students, look at the Colby website, I think there is an article about it. Good luck!

Here is the link about the organic produce:

Thank you for the article! Are you familiar at all with Colby's theatre program?

Yes, I am. Our daughter is a dedicated theater kid and has done three plays since coming to Colby. One was a Theater department play which included academic elements and counted as her art distribution requirement. The other two were as part of the student run Powder and Wig.

studiomom, My S will be attending Colby this fall. S is a theater kid and we had a personal tour of the theater department in April by the acting Chair. Not too many theater majors but lots of opportunities, and everyone we met in the department made S feel very welcome. The incoming Chair (Lynne Conner) is a published playwright and this really works in S' favor since he wants to be a playwright (and probably double major in something more marketable).

Thanks for all of the theatre info. We are now officially intrigued!
