I have been quite lost lately and I don't know if I should should go to a Cal State or a Community College.
I can go to a CC and transfer to a UC but I don't know if I should because I hear students are taking years to finish their General Education in CC because of the lack of classes.
I was thinking about going to Mt. SAC, Pasadena City college, or Rio Hondo.
For Cal States I got into Long Beach, Northridge, and Los Angeles. And I don't know if I should just go to one of these Cal States and get a degree or go to a CC.
As for UC's I was rejected from the ones I applied to. However I am eligible for the Statewide Path thing. But I don't know how that works, except that it supposedly guarantees a you admission to a UC campus that has space. I qualify but have not received any notification about it so....I don't know....

CCs vary widely, some are UC transfer machines while others are overcrowded and impossible to secure your courses. I don’t know enough about the CCs you mention to really comment on them. Though it is very competitive at most campuses, thousands of students transfer from CCs to UCs every year. Bottom line - you didn’t get into a UC - and might not 2 years from now.

You do have attractive options - the proverbial ‘bird in the hand’. If you can afford it, head straight to CSULB or Northridge and don’t look back. They are both good schools that will serve you well as you enter the workforce.

My daughter is in the same boat. Only applied to two UC schools because of their majors and got rejected from UCLA and UCI. She does not want to go to any other UC just to say that she went to a UC so she decided to go to CSULB which was also on her list as a good school for her major. If you sign up for the CC Honors Program, there’s is a good chance you will get into a UC but it’s not guaranteed unless you do their TAG program. Not sure how hard the classes are to get. I know someone who wanted to go to UCLA but didn’t get in so she’s at the CC now and hates it and to top it off, she doesn’t want to go to UCLA now she wants to go to UCSC which she could have easily gotten into with her gpa and test scores. Good luck!

i was just looking at the Statewide Path for the UC’s and entered my daughter’s info and she too is eligible. Did you get notification from the school about your eligibility?

“If you’re in the top 9 percent of California high school graduates and aren’t admitted to any of the UC campuses you apply to, you’ll be offered a spot at another campus if space is available. We use a formula — called an admissions index —to determine if you fall in that group.”

Statewide path may get you referred to Merced - if there’s room. As I understand it, once you are rejected from other UCs, your portal will reflect your ELC or statewide path status - and/or Merced (used to be UCR too but, i don’t think they do it anymore) will extend an invite for you to attend.

My daughter got an email yesterday offering her admission to UC Merced. We don’t think that’s a good fit for her so she will not attend.
