Is Cornell right for me?

I got accepted into Cornell, and I'm contemplating between Cornell and another school. One thing that makes me hesitant to go to Cornell is the fact that I'm EXCRUCIATINGLY shy. Like, it can get pretty bad. It's just something I've been my whole life and I can't seem to get over my inability to be outgoing and confident.

Cornell is five hours away from my home, in a relatively isolated place. Would I be able to survive there and make friends? It's a stupid question, but I want to know from others experiences if it's possible for introverts to find a social life there.

Nope, Cornell is about drugs and partying.

Just kidding, I figure that in school with 18k students, there has to be at least a few people who share similar interests with you…

I’m obviously going to be biased because I go to Cornell and love it, but I definitely think you should come here :)

College is a time to open up and experience new things-- I think just the fact that you will be far from home will encourage you to be more social and meet new people.

On top of this, Cornell has an amazing Greek community. I’m not sure if you are male/female, but either way-- if you think that you might have a hard time finding a niche, then I would definitely rush and join a house. It introduces you to SO many people-- I know a ton of girls who were fairly shy at first, but are total social butterflies now.

Anywhere you end up-- I encourage you to really make an effort to get to know others, I was shy when I was younger, but it is definitely something you can overcome!
