I'm thinking about doing the college summer institute to get acquainted with the school before the year starts but it's rather long (6 weeks of summer!) and expensive. Are you doing it?

Also is it different than FSP? (freshman summer program)

I would do it again.

It’s completely different from FSP. I believe FSP is only offered for AAP students. Again, completely different. Different student group, different types of students, different programs, different everything.

6 weeks is very short compared to the quarters in the academic year. You’ll probably enjoy those six weeks, and your friends back home will be jealous that you’re starting early.

For the expenses, financial aid is available, but of course that’s on an individual basis.

What are AAP students? And was the work during CSI significant? I mean in terms of having to study, exams, etc… it’s summer after all so I was only going to do it if it’s not too much work :P

What are AAP students?
AAP stands for Academic Advancement Program, and the program consists of students from “multi-ethnic, low-income, first generation, and multiracial backgrounds.” You can apply to be in the program; students who are admitted are those who AAP thinks will benefit most from the perks or… “extra help.” If your high school had AVID, then I think AAP is like the college version.

It was super chill for me and most other people I know. Only the international students had a really difficult time digesting all the reading in their sociology class. You can find out more about the courses offered in the program at the CSI website and all, but I had plenty of time to do whatever chizz I felt like. It was the best summer ever.
