Is December too late to take the SAT?

The December test date is on the 1st, and scores will be available starting December 20th. I'm retaking it in October (in a few days) but by the time I get my score back to see if I want to take it a third time, the November late registration deadline will have already passed. Can I take it in December in time to send to colleges, or will it be too late?

I'll probably be applying to these schools:
Oberlin
William and Mary
University of Virginia
University of Chicago
Virginia Tech
Bryn Mawr

Check the school’s admissions page. They list the deadlines for testing.

Depends if you are applying RD, EA, ED, etc. For most EA/ED, it will be too late. For RD, it depends upon the cutoff date. If the school’s cutoff date is 12/1, then you have to find out. If the cutoff is 1/1, then the scores will be ready in time (assuming you indicate the school when you register for the test).

I’m not applying early anywhere, so RD for all schools.

All the schools you list take December scores for regular admission. That is true for almost every college in the nation.
