Is demonstrated interest (aka touring the school and meeting with an admissions counselor) weighted in admissions? I live far from the school and it is difficult for me to tour the school. I would definitely tour if I was accepted, though, but I don’t want to lower my chances of getting in just because I didn’t tour before I applied. Thanks!
My understanding is that Elon does take demonstrated interest into consideration. They want students who really want to be there. We also lived far from the campus and couldn’t get there, but there are other ways to demonstrate interest. Find out who your admissions representative is and make sure to make contact. Let them know how interested you are in Elon and find out when Elon will have representatives in your area. Make a point to get to any college fairs etc and meet them in person if possible. If the rep will be at a nearby school but not yours, see if you can go there (we did this once when our son was looking at Vandy – we think that’s why he got in). If not, just make sure to get to know your rep and keep in contact (without being annoying or a pest). If you get any more honors or achievements etc. be sure to let your rep know. Make sure that the rep knows that Elon is your first choice (if that’s true). The rep will be the person who advocates for you in the admissions process, so that relationship is more important than a campus visit, especially when they can see that you live far away. Good luck!
Just to echo supruwoman, yes demonstrated interest is definitely weighted. Admissions counselors jobs are specifically to get to know prospective students and recommend those who they see as a good fit for the university. Absolutely reach out to your admissions counselor (varies by your region of the country) and express your interest in Elon. Also remember most admissions counselors are young, recent graduates. They are really easy to talk to!
