I'd like to know how strong the liberal presence at Duke is. Thanks.

Duke has a strong liberal presence. i doubt the majority are conservatives.

No way you can call Duke conservative. There's a fair share of both sides of view. Tough to say which has more of a presence though. I'd say liberal but not as crazy liberal as other colleges.

Well I'm a crazy liberal, I'm just wondering how comfortable I would be there. ;)

I am a crazy liberal and I'm perfectly comfortable.

By the way, there are definitely more liberals at Duke than conservatives. I'd say it's around 65/35 liberal/conservative...definitely more balanced than a Brown or Wesleyan but not "conservative" to say the least. I would say Princeton, UVa, Vanderbilt, and Georgetown are more conservative in terms of students, and Stanford, Wash U, Vanderbilt, Columbia, Chicago, and a bunch of other places are more conservative in terms of faculty. Duke University Press is the leading publisher of queer theory and our lit department is very Marxist--they even have a guy (Hardt) who wrote a book with a terrorist, lol. So, Duke will definitely give you a bunch of different views to digest but you shouldn't feel uncomfortable whether you're liberal or conservative.

Awesome.

I guess I just have my stereotype of the south. :-/

hey, as long as I don't get lynched, I'll be happy there

haha. that would totally suck
