Princeton review always lists Duke as one of its top 20 jock schools... is this stereotype true? I really don't want to go to school with a bunch of people who try to abide by the same social hierarchy that permeates my high school, and am therefore hesistant to become serious about Duke if this whole "jock mentality" is as widespread as PR has led me to believe...

Well, I don't know if Duke is like that, but I am applying ED and I am about as artsy as it gets. I plan on being a theater major and things like that, so if there are others like me, Duke can't be a jock school

Only the bastketball program is truly all world. When was the last time you heard anything about Duke football on a national or even regional level?

Actually, Duke soccer and golf are pretty good too. Personally, I love intramurals and that's why I'm applying to both ND and Duke (besides the education of course).

every sport at duke is nationally ranked pretty much except football. why is everyone so narrow minded to think that bball and football are the only 2 sports.

womens golf #1
mens lax #2 (will be #1 this year)
mens soccer #1
womens bball top 5
womens soccer and mens golf are usually top 25, and im sure Duke has a few other top programs as well

maybe its cuz bball football are the only ones peopel care about? haha just playin

There are definitely a lot of athletes here (and I happen to live in one of the 'athlete dorms,' meaning I am literally surrounded by them)...plus we have that whole little deal of our top-ranked men's basketball team. But there are DEFINITELY, DEFINITELY plenty of non-athletes...including myself, my roommate, and a ton of my friends (and people in my classes).

I will say, however, that if you come to Duke you should expect to become a Cameron Crazie...because even if you don't participate in sports yourself, most people go all-out for the basketball games. Almost all of the non-athletes I know (and I am talking REALLY non-athletic people here) still paint their faces blue and wait on line outside Cameron for hours. Just prepare to be crazy about your school, and you'll be fine here.

Duke's a big school, don't worry you can find your niche
