Is Economics/accounting major difficult?

My son got accepted into UCSB pre-economics/accounting major as a transfer, but now I'm wondering if this is the best fit for him. I've heard great things about getting recruited for a job out of UCSB, but only if you have the grades to stand out. My concern is that he may not be able to get good enough grades at UCSB, and if he might be better off going into a business program at a CSU which may be easier. UCSB is a school he could never have gotten into as a freshman so I would hate to see him struggle competing against students that did, if that were to happen. Cal Poly Pomona is the likely alternative.

Whether it is better to major in business or econ for accounting is a whole another question....

I met an Econ/Acc major at the Chancellor’s reception. From the way he described it, UCSB’s program was top notch and he had gotten a job in his junior year – he got recruited from one of the Big 4, Ernest & Young.

He was pretty enthusiastic about it and said the professors were amazing. He did a pretty great job of selling the idea of going to UCSB to me. From the way he described it though, it did sound like you needed a pretty decent GPA / do well in the course in order to get recruited that early.

I’d also like more information on this major though. Bump for additional info!

^wow, very nice to know!
Let’s bump this up! I want to know more!
