Is Editor-in-chief of the school newspaper an impressive ec?

Is it? I'm trying to build up my resume for my senior year.

Yes.........

well, be sure you actually do a good job and aren't just doing it to get the title for your resume

definitley not at my school. our newspaper is CRAP.

Of course I will. The thing is...I was nominated to be Key Club lieutenant governor. If I try out for this, then I may not have time for AP classes, as well as my other clubs.

I think it depends a lot. I think it's a nice title. But if you're applying as an English major, I think it would be pretty impressive. It shows that you're not the only one who thinks your talented. But, there's a school newspaper at virtually every school so if you're applying somewhere competitive, realize that it might not be that impressive. Don't make it your only EC.

I think you should try for that Lieutenant Gov position. That seems much more impressive...if you get the position, that is.

There must be more than 10,000 school newspapers around the country. Does yours win any awards?

Not of which I know. But I'm also editor in chief of the literary magazine and president of a few clubs. I also created a community service group that focuses on the self-esteem of adolescent girls in the community.

top choices?

What do you mean...as in college choices?

"then I may not have time for AP classes. "
In that case, go with the AP classes instead of the editor position. The rigor of the classes you take, and the grades you receive, are more important to your college applications than 1 additional leadership position.

Just manage your time. Being LTG of KC and editor of a newspaper w/ taking 6 AP's is perfectly managable. You just can't be inefficent, which is a trait 99.9999% of our society suffers from.

Be efficent and you can juggle being a leader in a large amount of local, state, and even national/international activities, and take a buttload of AP's w/ 4.0s. Of course, its extremely difficult, but doing so is about as close as you can get to making HYP a match/safety.

yes.........

Oh, well let's see. I'd love to get into an Ivy, but I'd also settle for a nice Liberal Arts college too. If I decide to go into science I may apply to Johns Hopkins. Ummm...political science...Drew University. I have to say my top schools right now are Princeton, NYU, Swathmore, Johns Hopkins, Drew, Elmira, Cornell, etc.

I #1 problem is saying NO to leadership positions. My schedule next year so far: 6 AP classes, editor of newspaper & literary magazine, prez of E.R.A.S.E., philosophy club, probably Spanish Honors Society, and maybe KC or mu alpha theta. I also plan on getting a job/internship at the local newspaper and working on a community service project. And on top of that I have to tutor in chem, spanish, and math. It never ends!!

If your school's paper has done impressive thigns under you, yes... or if your school's paper has a certain prestige.

MD,You are forgetting one additional task you have next year-applying to colleges, which can be a part time job itself. Writing essays, filing out numerous forms online, asking for and following through on getting teacher/ outside recommendations, etc etc can take many hours of time in the first semester of Senior year. IMO- Head of Literary magazine is enough. No need to add editor as an additional responsibility..

This is true. You guys are very helpful.

it's good to be. nothing extraoridinary
