I've heard that engineering is at north campus, which is isolated from the central campus and no girls are ever up there. Honestly how bad is it? Is the social life still decent? Is majoring in engineering at Michigan so different that it's like going to a separate school?

I'm in engineering too but I'm living on Central Campus hopefully...you only have one class on North freshman year so I really wouldn't suggest living there because it is pretty isolated...

yea, I put central/hill as my first choice on the housing app too. Hopefully I'll get a room in south or west quad. I know at least a dozen people from my school going to umich next year, and out of the 6 or so going engineering, I think that only one other than myself could be considered socially normal. The rest of them I foresee sitting in their dorm rooms playing runescape when they aren't busy studying. Conversely all the LSA people that I know are pretty cool to be around, so I definitely want to be rooming at central with them as far away from north as possible.

Lots of freshmen get assigned to living on North anyway...more than half of last year's incoming class?

I'm almost certain I'll end up at Bursley, seeing how I actually requested it. I figured I'd rather stay there than at Markley, which is where I probably would've been put if I had requested Central/Hill. I'm probably the only person in the world who request North, but oh well. I guess I am more of the studious type, so I shouldn't mind it too much.

im not an enginnering student so i wouldnt be speaking firsthand, but i did live in bursley so i can tell you this.. most of the people (or at least a good percentage ) of the people that live at bursley are not engineering students.. as you guys mentioned, alot of people who requested to live on central/hill end up at bursley because there simply arent enough rooms there to suit everyone's needs.. bursley is a pretty social dorm (i'd probably compare it to markley, except slightly toned down) and the majority of the people there are not socially-awkward so it shouldnt be a problem living on north. i cant say anything about how the classes themselves will be though, but as mellohappy said, you only have one class on north campus your first semester so you can spend the rest of the time on central.. once you start taking more classes at the engineering school after your first year, you can just move down to central campus.. hope that helped..

North Campus is not isolated in that there are free University buses leaving for Central Campus and downtown Ann Arbor every 10 minutes ot so and the ride itself is only 5-10 minutes long.

there are plenty of girls that live in bursley and baits.
