for EA we did an estimated css profile (from 2006). does anyone know if FAFSA and the 2007 ACTUAL profile is necessary to be filed before some date in order for olaf to make a decision?

What is that date?

Did you receive a letter from financial aid yet? We received one yesterday. Basically it says that the Profile should have been completed by the EA deadline, and the FAFSA is due by March 1. It also says accepted students who have completed both forms by the deadlines will be mailed financial aid awards the first week of March. It says nothing about updating the Profile, but when you complete the FAFSA, St. Olaf will know what the actual numbers are as opposed to the estimates you provided on the Profile. If you are worried, maybe just give them a call. The last line in the letter they sent says "Please don't hesitate to call!" , so they must be pretty open to questions :) Hope this helps

Yes, we recvd SOMEthing from Olaf concerning FA, but I did not get the gist of it. It definitely said to do FAFSA, but I cannot recall the deadline.

If the deadline to do FAFSA is 3/1, and the decision on an EA app is 02-15, I guess this means that Olaf does not need a FAFSA filed to render a decision on an EA app.

I do not think that St. Olaf needs the FAFSA for the admissions decision. I am pretty sure that they do need it for the financial aid award, though.

That said, St. Olaf is need sensitive, so I am sure that your financial need must play some role in the admissions decision.

chedva in another olaf post showed that olaf does fold financial factors into the admissions part. No less than olaf president anderson said so.

Yes, they do factor it in...hence, they are need "sensitive", and not need "blind".

All I meant is that that your "need" is reflected in your Profile for admissions, and not by the FAFSA. The FAFSA seems to be used for financial aid, in addition to the profile.
