Just wondering. Ive heard this phrase thrown around a few times now and considering i am one myself i was wondering how much weight it may actually hold. Although, i truly believe it will be little to nothing, i imagine itd be better to get some input from people who may actually know something.

Sure, it’s taken into consideration, and being a high-achieving first-generation student absolutely helps you. It’s not a particularly unusual state of affairs, though – MIT says that about 15% of the incoming class is considered first-generation.

MIT is also very proud of its first gen students. There’a a poster campaign that’s been going on for the past year, so every morning on my way through the infinite, I walk past posters that tell me that my 8.02 professor and the president of the Institute were both first generation college students.
