I have many interests and I think Gallatin may be for me. I have interests in screenwriting, print journalism, acting, Holocaust Studies, European and Mediterranean Studies, and I can see myself becoming a talent agent. I would like to focus on becoming a print journalist. I would love to work for a travel magazine such as National Geographic Traveler. I would like to go to the peace corps after college and go to Syracuse for my graduate degree (they have a degree in arts journalism). I can see my concentrations as Travel Journalism and Television Writing at Gallatin. I would like to discover all of my interests, so that is what brought me to Gallatin. I have previously considered CAS and Tisch, but I think I could get both worlds at Gallatin. I really do not like having many requirements, but will I be able to take all the same journalism classes as CAS? What would be the pros and cons of CAS VS Gallatin?

What do employers think of this degree? I have heard Gallatin looks for unique people and may not be as hard to get into. What is your feedback? Thanks! I still have plenty of time, but I am keeping my options open. NYU has always been my number one choice.

Okay, take what I say with a grain of salt since I’ll be applying to Gallatin ED next year but have done extensive research on the school already.

From what I know, it’s not the easiest school in NYU to get into only because they look for a certain person. Basically, the admissions officers look more at the essays rather than GPA, SAT, etc. If you know where you see yourself in the future, then Gallatin is the place. Like for me, I like helping people. Not helping people per se, but I like making people “aware” and I see myself as a future photojournalist because I’ve spent thousands and thousands of hours with the camera as my tool to create pictures with a story. I also have an interest in health care and the 300ish hours I’ve helped run my fathers pharmacy('s) shows that.

The admission officers basically look for varied interests. Also, from what I know, alumni from Gallatin have gone to really good grad schools and make six figures just the same as that of a stern graduate. Of course the concentration plays a pivotal role in this. Also, on the NYU Gallatin website, it says that all courses from CAS are available to Gallatin students but only some from Tisch and I’m not sure about Stern. Hope this helped.
