Is George Washington a Possibility?

I guess I'll start by saying I go to a public high school in Tennessee and I'll be a senior when school starts back in August. I plan to apply to GWU early decision probably for international affairs or journalism.

I'll (possibly) (hopefully) be in the top 10% of my class of around 500. I meet all the requirements to graduate with honors. I have taken the ACT once and my composite score was a 28, and I believe my other scores were reading-33, English-33, math-24, and science-25. I have yet to take the SAT, but I plan to take the Math 1, French, and U.S. history subject tests on October 5 because apparently some subject tests are required for early decision. I don't see myself doing poorly on those.

My unweighted GPA for last year (junior year) was a 3.5. I took 1 AP, 1 IB, and 5 honors classes last year. Next year I'm hopefully taking 1 AP, 4 IB, and a couple scattered honors classes.

My extracurriculars include ten years of piano lessons, during which I was required to play at nursing homes, church functions, and obligatory Christmas recitals. I have also been in honors choir all four years of high school. I am the vice president of my school's Young Democrats club. I am a member of French Honors Society, Tri-M (Music Honors Society) Interact Club, Leo Club, and Habitat for Humanity. I tutor elementary school kids and volunteer at the child advocacy center in my town, but those are my only non-club related volunteer work.

I realize I've typed a lot without even realizing so I apologize in advance, but if you could give me your opinions that would be just absolutely lovely.

I think you have a pretty good shot if you improve your GPA!

Thank you! GPA is my biggest concern right now.
Forgot to mention that I attended Volunteer Girls State. That’s a big deal in my state, but I don’t really know if any school outside of TN will recognize it. Oh well!

GWU ED: High match

You might want to consider U Missouri if journalism is what you want. Is UTN-Knoxville a possibility, too?

GWU early-d: High Match
GPA is going to be a factor, you may want to increase it.

I think you have a good chance. Just improve that GPA a bit. Also, make sure that GWU is financially viable since you want to apply early decision.

GPA is a bit low but not horrible. It is too late to improve it before the application deadline, but make sure that you have a great mid-year report. If it is your top choice consider applying ED.

ArtsyGirl13- that’s just my GPA for junior year. It would probably be better if I calculated for all four years. Should I do that?

Yes, they will look at your unweighted GPA for freshman through junior year, though they will place extra weight on your GPA from junior year.

My GPA for all three years is a 3.65. Any better?

bump! can i get a few more opinions?
