I never trust those reported GPAs because we do NOT know how many of those “low” GPAs were from non-Trads. I suspect that those with sub 3.7 GPAs are non-trads or hooked students.

Why non-traditional deserve a lower Gpa?

@artloversplus

lol…I’m not saying that non-trads “deserve” a lower GPA. I am saying that non-trads are probably more likely going to have a lower GPA when they apply …for these reasons:

1) when they were undergrads, they weren’t usually premed and weren’t as concerned about having a very high GPA. Someone going to college to become a history teacher isn’t focused on getting a 3.8+ GPA. If they graduated with a 3.2ish GPA, they probably happily moved on to teaching. But…when they later returned to fuliflll their premed prereqs, even if they got straight A’s, their prior GPA would drag the cum down to a 3.5ish GPA.

2) some started college, got miserable grades the first year or two, dropped out, maybe joined the militiary or did something else…and then after “growing up,” they went back to college as premeds, did very well, but those old bad grades drag down the GPA to a less than fab GPA.

3) med schools tend to be MORE forgiving when the “bad grades” were from many years ago. The more time that an applicant can put between “bad grades” and top grades, the BETTER. Adcoms aren’t really going to care about a 2.9 GPA from 10 years ago when the student recently returned to school and got a 3.8+ in pre-reqs and other classes.

m2ck

If so, the med schools or amcas should report GPA Mediums instead of Averages, the Averages are misleading.

@taxespq

The studentdoc.com IS an updated LizzyM and they even use the LizzyM formula.

@artloversplus

I wish that a report would separate out the non-trads’ GPAs from the trads’ GPAs. With so many older students applying to med schools these days, including their “challenged” GPA’s into the reports would mislead the traditional applicant.

@texaspg look at the post above, you were tagged but a typo kept you from being notified.

^^ yes m2ck
Now it is clear why D did not get any md school II even now in Dec, with a 3.5…

Thanks @mom2collegekids

@artloverplus Do you have the latest link?

???

What do you mean?

<a href=“Got a Premed Plan? - StudentDoc”>http://www.studentdoc.com/Table/Premed/

enter scores at the right screen? its not LizzyM spread sheet but the data is updated and formula is LizzyM

I’m still holding out hope for your D.

fingers crossed.

It is a tool but LizzyM spread sheet provides lot more information beyond the scores which the predictive tool does not seem capable of. I want to see numbers for admissions, instate vs OOS etc.

True
But for now you have to collect info from different places. Unless you Want to volunteer ? :)

I gave mine to Dartmouth.

https://www.dartmouth.edu/~nss/nav/pages/school/Med%20School%20MSAR%20Summary/MSAR%20Summaries%202012-13/MedSchoolFactSummary12-13.html

^^ Great! Dartmouth actually uses median instead of mean. Its a more realistic way to present GPA.

m2ck

me too… However, when she received a flat rejection from Oakland, my hart sink a little more…:)
