Is Harvard the Best in the World? I think not...

ok.. im not disagreeing to the above.. just keep in mind that india has only been a country for 50 years and has to deal with a population of 1 billion.

also thats the beauty of iit. in midst of all this so called 'corruptness' you have a school that accepts purely based on merit(the son of Infosys couldn't get in and had to go to Cornell instead). Also, its extremely affordable(completly free at grad level) so any indian could attend(even if they have to take loan.. they'll make up for it in like 1 year).

That all this touting of IIT is taking place on the Harvard Forum says something about Harvard all by itself.

Well i dont see an international schools forum.

And stop looking at IMO. We're not talking about students going in, we're talking about students coming out. If all math-oriented people knew about IMO, every single kid applying to IIT would know about IMO. And they don't. Indian students (who dont go to private schools) don't have as many educational opportunities as students in America, or even other Asian countries.

I personally never said IIT kids are smarter. I just think they are much harder working because they have more to attain(financial security).

ManOnFire, please refrain from making facts up about universities you have clearly never visited and know absolutely nothing about.

This forum is intended as an informational resource for prospective college students. While there is a lot of good, helpful advice here, there are unfortunately a lot of under-18 trolls who have never been to any college, yet make bold statements about leading ones on their respective boards.

You, from your last post in this topic, seem like one of them.

Besides, you haven't shown me any concrete evidence to prove that my assumptions are astray about Caltech, or anything else I metioned in that post.

Have you taken me up on my offer and posted your impressions of Caltech in their forum? There's even an admissions officer regularly posting in that section.

If anyone should know their criteria, it would be him. Tell us what he thinks of you.

Haha, does it matter what some Caltech adcom thinks of me HarvardAlum98'??? I refuse to live under a veil of threats and corruption, I'm confident that I will get a fair shot at admission(if I ever apply there) regardless of what I say in a Caltech forum on a public website.

Besides, noone is denouncing Caltech here. I'm just saying that IIT admissions are PURELY based on an academic meritocracy while those of Caltech are not. Hence, I believe that even though Caltech students may be better well-rounded than those of IIT, they are not as mathematically/scientifically gifted as a class as a whole.

Also, refer to confidential's posts which also make valid points about IIT and such.

Oh, you certainly will, have no worries on that score. In which case, why haven't you started a topic in their forum asking whether this

is true or not? I mean, it's complete hogwash for anyone who knows the school, but if you don't want to take the word of someone who went there for grad school, why not ask a current admissions officer then?

See, bizarre opinions upon the merits of certain universities and their students are one thing (there are plenty such in this topic!), but you're the only one who actually posted completely made-up, bogus assertions about admissions practices at a well-known technical university.

You have two options; admit you were wrong and know nothing about the school, or else ask their adcom whether "entertaining, interesting people with a lack of solid scientific accomplishment/achievement" are admitted over more qualified candidates.

Re: post # 106: Hear! Hear!

This one is done.
