<p>Believe it or not, for distance runners you typically do not want to run your race in intervals as you probably won’t be going as fast as you would in the race, so you could see how this develops bad habits.</p>
<p>This early in the season, pre-season really unless this you do indoor meets, its a good idea to have a long distance interval workout. Later, you’re right, you’ll probably be doing things like 600m or even 400m with the other 800 runners, but I’d be surprised if you do any 800m intervals.</p>
