We just attended a Colleges that Change Lives tour in Bethesda MD and are interested in getting more info. on Hiram. My D1 is a very artsy, B student (3.0-3.3 range), est. SAT's will be around 1800 (based on PSATs). She does have ADD, and is strong in Japanese language, fine arts, and sciences (undecided major). "Fit" for her would be very liberal LAC's similar to Goucher, Earlham, Guilford. Is Hiram a completely different student body/feel, or is Hiram similar to these? Open to other suggestions if it's not on target.

Also, if you think it's a good fit, do you know if they offer any fine arts scholarships? Do not qualify for much in the way of aid and are aiming for talent scholarships (can't get merit with her GPA).

I wouldn’t be so sure she can not get merit aid, especially if she can push herself up to the 3.3 range. My daughter fell in love with Hiram and will be attending in fall. She is pretty artsy and was only interested in small LAC. She didn’t visit Goucher because she didn’t want to go to school in the city, she attends high school in DC (upper NW). Earlham was too far for her, and I wish I could have persuaded her to look at Guilford, but she did not want to go south.

I would advise you to visit. Visiting was a vital part of my daughter’s college search. Tiring (for me), but well worth it. Good luck.

Kenyon and Dennison might be another options to look at. Oberlin also but it is also academically a tough school. I don’t believe there is lot of merit money at any of these school for her GPA range. However, we visited all three and they are certainly “liberal” LA colleges.
