I’m in the honors program at my community college, but I have the option of graduating early…which means that I won’t be able to fulfill the required honors credits that I need to take. Is it worth it to just go an extra semester and take them (I’ll still be graduating a semester early) or should I just skip it? Does it really matter when I’m transferring to a four-year college?
I would say it depends on how competitive the school you want to transfer to is, and what you want to major in. How competitive are admissions at the four year? Is the major limited access? Is it a state school?
It’s a private school, and I was accepted when I applied in High School. I just couldn’t afford it then.
Since you’re already admitted, there are 3 main factors to consider:
- Will these be classes you would get credit for and would have had to take anyway? If so, you would most likely save some $.
- Will taking an extra semester put you behind once you start at your 4-year school? EG, many majors have required tracks and some classes can only be taken fall/spring.
- How does the experience you get during the semester of community college measure up to a semester at the 4-year school? Maybe those honors classes have awesome professors? Can you work a PT job that you couldn’t otherwise? Extracurricular considerations?
