Are Honor Classes worth it?

I’m currently a CC student majoring in Comp Sci and I currently have a 4.0 Gpa. I still have a while to go before I can transfer (due to all the math classes I have to take). I was accepted into the Honors classes at my CC and I was wondering if it is worth jeopardizing my GPA to take these harder classes? Will that make me that much more competitive or do universities not really care?

My potential colleges are:

UCLA
Stanford
UCSD
UCR
UCB
USC

Yes, it’s worth it because it shows 4-year colleges you don’t shy away from difficulty. Also, the classes aren’t necessarily harder but will require more complex thinking, more responsibility in preparing for class, etc . - they’re closer to what you’d find at the Universities you’re aiming for. Don’t you want to prove you’re able to do well in these classes, both to yourself and the universities you’re hoping to get into ?

Yes, first off the ones that I took were not really harder as far as grading went. It may be more work, but generally this allows a closer relationship with the teacher.

You will also be in classes with people who like an intellectual challenge and are serious students.

For UCLA, CS is part of the College of Engineering. Only the College of L&S will receive the benefits of transferring with honors.

The rigior of your coursework matters a lot!
