Grades and Applying For Transfer To A 4-Year From A Community College After One Semester

Hey all! I’m currently a student at a community college. It is my first year and I have around 30 units already from AP classes in highschool. At the end of this year, I’ll have my 60 units complete and will have completed 2 AA-t’s. I am also in the Honors Program and will be certified at the end of the second semester. My question is, since I am filling out college applications now, as the first semester is still in progress, will these grades I have matter? I’m halfway through my first semester, so none of my grades are finalized. I know second semester my grades will be close to negligible, but I am curious about the first as colleges will not see them unless I report them after first semester ends in 5 weeks. Similarly, is my Honors status also negligible since I will not be certified until the end of this year? And if so then what will my admissions be based on?

“will these grades I have matter?”

Yes, they will. Universities are very likely to require that you report the current semester’s grades before they decide on your application. Even with this you will only have one semester of grades from your college, which means that your high school grades will also matter.

Other than the time to fill out the forms and the application fees, I don’t see any harm in applying now. If you don’t get in, then you can apply again one or two semesters later. They will not hold it against you that you applied twice. If you apply again in a year then you will have three semesters of college grades, which will make your high school grades much less important.
