Hi everyone,
I’m a senior in the process of waiting for decisions to come back, and as most seniors do, I’m getting nervous around this time and am starting to second guess myself a little bit. What I want to know is if saying the following within my additional information section was appropriate or if it makes me sound like I’m trying to compensate for something.
“The following information was recommended to be added by my school’s college counselor. My school is very small and relatively new, and as such many clubs available at other high schools offered to students are not available at mine. For example, clubs such as National Honor Society, Key Club, Mu Alpha Theta, Debate, science olympiad, any form of academic competition/quiz bowl team, Speech, or iterations of any subject-specific honor society are not available at my school. AP courses are also not offered.”
It truly was recommended to be added by my college counselor, but all I’m worried about is that by saying this, does it make it sound like I’m trying to cover up a lack of ECs? My ECs aren’t lacking, however they are not typical activities that one might see (e.g. curling, Japanese language and culture club, Japan Bowl, a language immersion camp youth intern, etc.). My hopes in putting this on my application is that admissions officers wouldn’t wonder why I wasn’t in clubs such as national honors society and such.
For some additional context, my class only has 35 people in it and the entire high school is just a bit over 100 students, so it truly is very small. Thanks for the help and any response is appreciated.
