The classes listed for intercession sound amazing. I want to go back to college just for those. Are they as great as they sound? Can you stay in the dorms during Jan if not taking an intercession course? Does anyone do that? How much do the study abroad intercession course cost?

*intersession… if you spell it the other way, people from other school will be really confused.

And yes, it really is awesome. Imagine a college campus where almost everyone one is still there but only taking an easy 1 credit class that meets 2/3 times week. If you do not live in vacation housing, you must go elsewhere (no the dorms) until the day before intersession (so this year you could return on January 8th. You don’t need to take a course to go back but I highly recommend that you do. As a freshman, you should really look at the B’more classes. They are only for freshman and are 5 long days on the last week. HOwever they are really interesting fun and you get a free meal at a local but hard to get to restaurant. For example, I took Junk foods vs Whole foods so we went to Woodberry Kitchen for breakfast one morning before the restaurant actually opened and the chef himself came out to meet us and made us home made pop tarts, muffins, and other delicious pastries. If you are a full time student, it is 100% free.

^ It’s true that full-time students don’t pay anything extra to participate in intersession but it’s hardly free (unless you are getting a free ride anyway). Its costs are melded into the tuition and room & board rates. So it’s more accurate to think of it as wasting your money if you don’t participate. It’s not required but it’s hard to think of a good reason to avoid it.

And it is awesome. Particularly at a challenging school such as Hopkins, intersession allows you to spend some chill time with your classmates–still learning but mostly having fun. It’s unquestionably the best time of year (except for the weather).
