I am a junior this year and we have to turn in our class registration soon. I am currently in AP Calculus AB and getting pretty solid A's. I really want to take AP Calculus BC next year but I also want to take statistics. Our school added a seventh class period this year so I could take both but I'm worried about the work load. I don't have to work to hard this year to earn A's in my AB class but I know that BC is supposed to be a bit harder. All the majors I'm currently intrested are math and science oriented and I would benefit from either of these classes. I'm wondering if doing both in my senior year is reasonable or if not which one would be a better choice and why?

Trust me, AP stats isn’t a challenging course. Right now I’m taking Ap Calc AB and AP stats and i can honestly say that I’ve spent about 30 min outside of school studying for Stats this entire year. Of course, it will get more complicated because everything you’ve learned will come back, but it’s not that hard. I don’t know how hard BC is compared to AB, but I wouldn’t imagine it to be too difficult.

I’m currently a junior, taking both AP Calc BC and AP Stats. I have never struggled in stats, it is considered to be one of the easiest AP classes at my school. It’s more of a “learn the rules and apply” type of class. Calc BC is a challenging math class, but if you put in the work, you’ll definitely get a B or higher. Also, the fact that you’ve taken AB already, it may feel like review for the first semester. If you are strong at math, taking both classes is not bad at all. I’m taking 3 other AP classes as well and I don’t feel like the workload this year is too overwhelming.

Also, taking BC when you already have taken AB may not be as useful. You should check to see the AP credit policies of each college your going to apply for, since the AB credit may be the same as BC.

A lot of kids at my school do it. Go for it!

Ya, I’m always one to advise against people taking on crazy schedules that will make them miserable on this site but I think BC and Stats would honestly be fine together – stats is supposedly not bad.

It’s doable. Stats isn’t bad, really. I personally enjoyed calc a lot more, though. Don’t expect it to be super challenging and enjoyable like other math or science AP classes.

If you enjoy math then I would do it…

I was planning on doing it but my schedule got filled up so I decided to just take Calc BC

Took both, got an A in one and A- in the other. Did no outside work for stats, very minor stuff for calc BC. Go for it.

I’m in the same boat so hopefully we’ll both be okay haha. However, I took Calculus AB last year and received a 5 on the test so it won’t be completely new material to me. I think you’ll be fine; I’ve heard that AP Stat isn’t very difficult and while calculus can be tricky, if you actually take the time to learn the material it is manageable. Best of luck! :)

Stats isn’t really math at the AP level. It’s just memorize formulas and apply. (Of course, for many people, all math is that, but since you’re at the BC level…) AP Physics Mechanics is much more similar to BC Calc than Stat is.
