My son took the SAT for the first time today. He thought he did fairly well in the math; however, he feels he did poorly on the CR. He is registered for the May exam. I am nervous that if he does not do well on the exam in May, he will have to wait until the fall of senior year. That makes me nervous. Is it a bad idea to take it in May and June?

It's not a good idea to take the June test, in my opinion. You have to wait 3 weeks to get your results. If he did poorly on the May administration, he will have a week to prepare...and will probably get the same score. I'd advise you guys to prepare as best as you can for the May test. Also, CR was especially hard this time around, so maybe the curve will help your son's score. Maybe you should wait for the results to see. If they are as poor as expected, and May turns out to be not much better, he'll have the entire summer to prepare. That's a good thing! Summer provides plenty of useless free time, and he'll be able to put in a good few hours a day and still have fun. Good luck!

Don't take it in two consecutive months...I've never heard anyone doing better that way

Thanks for the input. I only have one son and this is our first time around. You make me feel a little better saying the CR was difficult this time. I was not sure if it was just him.
