Is it advisable to double major in psychology and criminal justice?

I am very interested in both fields and as a high school junior I will need to start getting these things in order when I apply to colleges in the fall.

Please be as detailed as you can as the question speaks for itself. Also is it difficult to double major in the two and what potential career opportunities are there for both majors individually and together?

as a sophomore criminal justice major, I can tell you that you’ll probably have a lot of overlap with your required courses if you choose to double major in psychology as well. what I suggest you do (which I did) is to take the opportunity that you have extra room in your schedule and double major in something that makes you more competitive to employers. I also am interested in political science, a field that is not too similar to CJ but not completely the opposite. this way, you’ll be able to get jobs or internships in both fields and be more well-rounded and educated as a job-seeker.

First, have you taken classes on those two topics yet? If you haven’t you might find that you don’t like them.

Second, you should make sure all of your schools even allow doing double majors, because not all of them do.

Third, you should make sure you feel like you’d be able to handle double majoring because it will be a lot of work and might leave you with little room for other courses.

If you feel as though you’d be able to handle that, and your school allows it, it can’t hurt to try, and if you find yourself struggling you could always turn one into a minor instead of a major.
