Is it all right to exaggerate a little on College Essays?

For example let's say I'm writing about Karate. And the thing is I never got a black belt, but I was really close to it.

In my essay can I just exaggerate a little and say I did reach my goal of getting a black belt?

That’s not an exaggeration. It’s a lie. No, it’s not ok. Lying on your app can lead to revocation of your acceptance.

Exaggeration is only acceptable when you convey something in such a way that it seems better than it is but is still correct; what you are asking about is, as griffen correctly points out, a lie, which is not acceptable.

okay thanks for the heads up :)
