In NJ it's a state graduation requirement to take 2 years of US history. I took apush 1 as a sophomore, but this year I took AP econ instead of apush 2. Next year I anticipate a rigorous schedule (chem at princeton, ap eng, ap physics C, ap french, ap calc bc), So I would love to not have to take USII, a subject which bores me and would take away time from focusing on my other subjects. Is there anyone I can contact to try to negotiate a way out of taking USII next year? The head of my school's history department said I couldn't avoid it. Can I take a summer course for it the summer after senior year? I really don't want to waste time with it next year....

heh?? what did you take as a freshman? Your sequence makes no sense…please explain

Idk about him, but my school’s (in NJ) history set up is this: world history as a freshman, US I soph year, US II junior year. I guess somehow he didn’t take USII this year and doesn’t want to take it next year either. I really don’t think that can be avoided, but try your best.

^^thanks for clarifiying; I was a HS teacher…that’s what I’m trying to figure out how he got out of USII this year given that every student in the state of NJ is supposed to take it by graduation…and, in addition, he took APUS I without a test (since the test is given after APUSII)…

and his GC put him in AP Econ without US II??? jeesh…

ha okay, my sequence:
frosh- world hist
sophomore- apush 1
junior- ap econ
senior- supposed to take usii or apush ii (apush ii at our school is mad hard)

yeah the only prereq for econ is an A in apush 1; and I was lucky that my GC allowed me to delay USII until senior year (although I really don’t want to take it at all considering my schedule). Is there someone outside of my school that I can contact?

Ours in NJ is:
Frosh: world history
Soph: American studies honors
Junior: Ap US
Senior: AP GOV or AP EURO

yeah I really wish our school offered ap euro or world. But seriously, is there anyone I can contact or anything I can do to avoid usii? :(((( I would even take a summer long class after senior year if it were possible. I’m desperate not to take it next year…

to the OP: if your GC “allowed” you to delay USII until senior year it was with the understanding that you were going to take it; not try to get out of it…

I just looked up the NJ regulations: you cannot graduate without two years of US history; world does not qualify nor does econ…

sorry…if you really don’t want to take AP US II take honors or regular…you’ll have your rigor in your other courses…

No, I only have 1 year of US history (as shown above). And yes, I originally asked to delay USII with the promise that I would take it senior year. But now I don’t want to. So I really just want to know if there is any way that I could still graduate without USII.

the NJ rule is two years of US

Why don’t you just test out of it? It would be relatively easy, since you’ve taken APUSH.

Our school doesn’t really allow testing out. I was originally thinking about contacting the NJ department of education or whatever, but this really does seem impossible. I guess ill have to waste a few hours every week next year on this stupid subject in a class full of stupid underclassmen. drat

What about an online class?

I don’t think its possible to get high school credits online

I believe it is I know people that have taken Econ courses and science courses online over the summer. I know someone who is gonna take as 2 hns over this summer because they chose to do gov this year as a junior.

I’m probably wrong, but I thought APUSH was U.S History I and II combined? At least that’s what I was told by my current U.S History I Honors Teacher, since I’ll be in APUSH as a Sophomore.

it depends on the school. In our school we go straight from world history to apush, however we have a two year apush curriculum. Lots of schools go from a year of US to APUSH. anyway, is there hope of getting actual credit for USII taken online?
