Possible to avoid NJ PE and US history graduation requirements?????

I'm going to be a senior next year and I badly want to take a princeton chemistry course. I want to take AP english, calc bc, french ap, and phy C with it, however I am also required to take gym, study hall, and USII. We are going to have a block schedule next year with 4 classes a day (alternating between A and B days), so excluding the chemistry course, I already have 7 classes although I can probably leave study hall to go to princeton. This still isnt enough time, as the princeton course meets T and TH in the morning (overlapping 2 of my regular classes), and I believe there is some lab segment in the afternoon (may or may not coincide with the end of an afternoon class).

I think that I could definitely take this chem class (which i reaaaallllly want) if I could somehow get out of USII and gym, however my GC says this is not possible. Are there any waivers I can get from the department of education or something??? I do a sport at the national level, so why do I have to sacrifice a valuable opportunity to take a subject I love at princeton so that I can complete the stupid PE (four square class) requirement. I don't need PE or usII :( :( :( :( ....

can someone please reply?

I have no clue what New jersey economy is like (because my school stopped accepting this very soon after I finished it.) BUT…my parents willingly payed for 2 semesters of “written P.E.” If there’s anything like that around you, talk to your GC and ask them. P.E. is wayyy more useless than U.S. history.

Coincidentally, world history was another class I could get out of to fit my schedule together, but I had to do in summer school for 5 hours/5 weeks. If they have something like that, history over the summer was pretty laid back too.

No…you cannot get out of the PE or the US History requirements in the State of NJ…

are you the same person who asked this in an extensive thread earlier this year? and didn’t we post the requirements from the State of NJ Education website?

Me or him? I’m from the west coast so that’s far from there

idk but seriously there has to be SOME way to make my ideal schedule work. PE is sooo useless and so is USII (you only learn in AP, but that is a ridiculous amount of work in my school). Are there online courses that can give hs credit?

nice: no, I meant the OP…

I highly disagree with one statement, you learn plenty in normal U.S history. APUSH has a much greater and intense learning experience, but you still recall the civil war and WWI and WWII like a regular history class. Aside from that, the online courses were pretty much what I was talking about for P.E., but I think rodney knows more than I do about your own state so if he says they don’t, they probably don’t. Well bring higher parts of the district in and see if they can get involved in substituting your pe req with your high level sport.

well when I say USII is useless, i mean in my school, not everywhere of course. In my school, regular US is a class where you do absolutely nothing. And I still haven’t gotten any useful advice…

See if you can be excused from taking US History in your school by taking a class over the summer. That works in my school at least.

Try New Jersey virtual school. I just looked and they offer both PE and US History. They do charge though.

Ok that’s reasonable, I know some schools have harder versions of classes than others. And I’m glad that I’m not the only one suggesting and finding these summer school classes.
