What it says in the title! Is it better to do official admitted students days or to schedule individual visits (to sit in on classes, etc)?

And how would someone set up the individual visits?

Thanks!

I’m in favor of the official day(s). There will be special events which won’t be available during a solo visit. Plus, you’ll be able to get a first look at some of your potential future classmates, maybe even exchange email/facebook info so you can get to know them a little better before you show up for Orientation. There may also be special activities for your parents which they’d appreciate.

I would go with official admitted days. One of the main advantages of those days is to see your potential classmates and get to see if you feel comfortable with people like them. Both the individual visits and official visit days offer the same basic events (info session, talk to counselor, etc), but I feel that for the official accepted student days, the school makes a bigger effort to impress the students and show what the school has to offer. That said, maybe an individual visit would help you get a more realistic sense of the school…but I don’t know…

You can set up individual visits by calling the admissions office. Another way would be to look on their website (most colleges have a “contact us” or “visit us” tab) and find the different programs they offer for individuals. Then you can sign up for those online.
