Most colleges require 2, so is there an added advantage if you take 3 or even 4? I've heard people say you should take 3, with one in each area (Humanities, Math, Science)

You mean SAT2?
Only a few programs in the US require 3 SAT2 scores and mostly with specific subjects. Some schools use multiple SAT2 in place of SAT or ACT for admission. Also, for home schooling students, the college may request submitting several SAT2 scores. Other than that, if you do meet the minimal requirement with great score would be sufficient. Of course, have more than 2 SAT2 scores would allow you or the adcom to pick the highest scores.

I would suggest not taking more than two in a single sitting. Taking three at a time is really spreading yourself too thin.

eh I did fine when I took 3 at once. Not that hard.

I meant to write SAT Subject Test not just SAT

and I don’t mean in one whole sitting, I mean in total

So the only benefit of taking more SAT 2 tests than required is that you have one more score in the pool that you can pick the best score out of?

That’s the general consensus. And taking too many can make you seem like a test-taking machine, but I think 3 isn’t too much.

is 5 pushing it??

@runningforlife I ended up taking 5 total, although I only took them in three subjects (retaking two). I would say don’t take five for the sake of taking tests, but if you want to improve your scores then it’s okay.

If you take an SAT subject test in a non-English native or heritage language, it is best to use it as an additional test beyond any that are required or recommended (i.e. if the college wants two, use the native or heritage language one as the third).

I see. I got a 740 on my USH test, should I take 2 more (I would do Math I and Literature) or just one more and avoid the extra stress? This would be in lieu with a 2270 score over two SAT I tests

bump

bump

3 subjects are fine; anything more goes into the test-taking drone category. Your USH score is very good. If you want to take Math 1 and Lit as your two additional tests, feel free, assuming you are planning on a non-STEM major.
