Is it better to withdraw from a class you will fail or keep a higher amount of credit hours?

My philosophy course is taught by an egotistical maniac, and I know almost for a fact that he does not like me (not responding to my email even though he responds to others). We also had to choose a topic that we needed to run by him beforehand. He waited until after our topic proposals were due to get back to me on my topic even though he responded to others who contacted him after me. Based the one time I have gotten feedback, it sounds as if I am doing very poorly in the class. I was hoping to withdraw if my midterm grade is below a C. I have As in my other courses thus far.

Dropping this course will take me from 16 credit hours to 12 credit hours which is barely full time and leave a W on my transcript. I was hoping to transfer after this year because of how unhappy I am at my current school, and I’m afraid that a W in my first year of school will prevent me from being accepted elsewhere. Can anyone offer advice?

If you withdraw, will you be carrying enough credit hours that semester to be in good standing to mantain your scholarship or FA?

Yes. Exactly that amount (12). I’m worried about not being able to transfer as well though :frowning:

A W is perfectly fine as a freshman (freshmen often pick classes and realize they made a mistake) and while having 1é credits is a bit short, it’s way better than a C, especially if you wish to transfer.

A W is ok and preferable to a failure as long as you will still be considered full time by your school.
