Is it common that colleges call your high school?

I have very mitigating circumstances and only one teacher knows at my school, and even he doesn't know everything. I have only written everything down on my common application. I am very worried as I am an international student and I fear that the colleges I apply to will call my school to enquire about the circumstances, or another part of my application (I am an international athlete), and they will talk to someone who doesn't know anything about me. Then I fear the college will think I'm lying about everything on my common app, even my grades. Is there a way where I can make the admissions officers have no doubt in my application so they don't call my high school?

I am applying to Harvard, Yale, Williams NYU etc. What is the chance that they will call my high school to check my application, even when I'm an international student?

Your Guidance Counselor needs to address these circumstances in his/her recommendation.

Okay! Thank you so much and I will ensure that he does this - does he need to go into a lot of detail or just mention them in a paragraph?

If they don’t know about it, they don’t know. And that’s pretty much it. A college won’t disregard your entire application just because your high school secretary doesn’t know everything about you.

The level it needs to be addressed depends on the circumstances/issue. If the college needs more info it will contact the GC.

Okay thank you so much you have all made it very clear! Ahaha, I was clearly being very melodramatic. I will fully inform my guidance councillor and then he can write this in the common app :)
