Is it easier to get into a school if you live close to it and you plan to commute?

i live in the la area so i’m wondering if this will increase my chances of admission at ucla. is it easier to gain admission to a school that you live nearby? for example, would an irvine resident have a higher chance at admission to uci than a san francisco resident, or would a san diego resident have a better shot at ucsd than an la student?

UCLA does not consider if you are local only the CSU’s. UC’s however consider that you are an in-state applicant.
